Bird Houses

Green & Sustainabale Materials

Cultural Significance:

  • These well-crafted, unique, handmade beehive birdhouses are designed and made in Bangladesh using upcycled copper wire and eco-friendly materials such as Banana Fiber, Jute, Hogla Grass and recycled materials such as Magazine paper and Cotton threads.

  • Fourier Nimbus carefully opted to leave wood material because we feel building birdhouses with wood defeats the primary purpose.

  • Each birdhouse is artisan crafted and sourced from our many fair-trade partners, providing fair wages and a safe environment for crafters

Care Instructions:

Most of our birdhouses are pretty durable except the ones made from recycled magazine paper. Birdhouses made out of jute, hogla, banana fiber will be able sustain rain, snow and heat, however in addition to natural deterioration, forced deterioration can happen due to hail or fire. Our products will have a significantly higher lifecycle compared to putting it outside in the garden, in the trees or in the patio. To clean our birdhouses use a damp cloth or rinse the insides briefly and then air dry. Use small tools to clean bird droppings if needed.

Terracotta

Made out of Earth & Fire

Historical Significance:

  • Ancient Heritage: Terracotta art has a long history in both Bangladesh and India, dating back to the Indus Valley Civilization (circa 2500 BCE).

  • Religious and Cultural Significance: Terracotta art is often associated with religious themes, including temple decorations, idols, and mythological scenes. Temples like the Kantaji Temple in Bangladesh and the Terracotta Temples of Bishnupur in West Bengal, India, showcase intricate terracotta work.

  • Versatility and Craftsmanship: The craft encompasses a variety of items, such as figurines, panels, plaques, pottery, and jewelry. Artisans skillfully create detailed motifs, including floral patterns, animals, and human figures, often inspired by daily life and nature.

  • Sustainability: Terracotta art is eco-friendly, as it uses natural clay and is often fired in traditional kilns. This makes it a sustainable craft, deeply connected to rural and agrarian lifestyles

  • Fourier Nimbus currently offering Terracotta Wall Decor Tiles, Pottery items, Jewelry items and Terracotta Dolls (Tepa Putul).

Care Instructions:

All Terracotta items are fragile and need to be handled with care. Do not soak or wash. Terracotta tiles, jewelry and the dolls should be cleaned with dry cloth. The pottery items can be rinsed, then wiped with a cloth and finally dry it under sunlight.

Shataranji Rugs

  • Shataranji is a handcrafted textile from Bangladesh, woven entirely by local artisans using traditional handlooms. Each thread carries the heritage of Bangladesh, blending tradition, skill, and artistry into timeless patterns. Crafted using age-old techniques, it showcases intricate geometric patterns and expert craftsmanship. The most common materials used to weave area rug are cotton yarn, jute yarn, wool, among others. During this process, specialized techniques and contrasting colors are used to create unique geometrical patterns and designs to add to the vibrancy of this beautiful art craft.

  • The weaving technique is traditionally used in the Rangpur region of Bangladesh. In 2021, Shataranji Rug was declared a Geographical Indication Product of Bangladesh.
